DESIGN WEEK #6 So this week I give you a webpage design. And I have to say, I did some disservice to it by doing the color in Photoshop. While I do like some aspects of the color, the buttons standout way too much, making it hard to read what the buttons say. I should tone them down some, maybe saturate the color as well. I've realized that I use way too much gradient in this, and I should move away from that. In fact, for next week I will limit myself to strictly Illustrator (as I should have at the start), and I won't use any gradient colors or blending at all. MOVING BLOG DAYS Tomorrow I start my first job, which I'm glad because it alleviates a lot of the worry I had about finding one before the loans come in. The issue comes in and why I bring this up, is that the hours I currently have over lap with the weekly blog. So I will see next week if I will be able to do the blog, if I am then nothing will wrong anymore, but if it is an issue then I'll probably have to move the blog day to either the weekend or Monday. Black Desert Black Desert: Black Desert is a Korean MMO currently in production by Pearl Abyss and it looks beautiful. I chose this for the thing of the week this week because a dropped recently showing off the world in a decently timed fly through and my god the world looks massive. The visuals of the characters and the world are stunning and the world looks pretty seamless. Black Desert also features one of the most intensive new videocharacter customization in any game to date. The game is free-to-play, and while an English client is being made, no word on the publisher has been announced yet. You can view any new and old videos the release on their YouTube channel.
-Till Next Week DESIGN WEEK #5 So like I said, I'm going to be using Illustrator for the remainder of these design weeks, and I have. But this one in particular in order to add more to it I did some small tweaks in Photoshop, and did some quick portraits and etc in flash to put things in place. This week I said I would design a character HUD, and you can't really have a HUD without a character's portrait and some abilities. The HUD itself was made in Illustrator, and after I made it I brought it into Photoshop to add some minor details, and finally took that into Flash to add the ability icons, and the character portrait. The quick sketch is to help visualize how the game would fit in, and since It's not part of the HUD I left it as a sketch. This one was fun to make and wasn't very difficult, just time consuming. Next week I'm going to do a website layout. 1000 PAGE VIEWS Yes its true! People have visited my site over 1000 times within the past 6 months, which is amazing. In terms of numbers around 20-30 people view the weekly blog, and I get around 200 or so views a month. So thank you to all of you who enjoy reading this each week. And I'll keep trying new things and adding more for others to enjoy as well. Also if you feel daring you can also leave a comment on a blog post. CALEB THOMAS Caleb Thomas: Or dCTb on DeviantArt, is an artist and musician and is amazing at both. I remember first finding him when he was making short animations with Easytoon, from there he's moved into using Gimp for his art and animation. He's started focusing more on art than animation later on as he started making covers for his song albums. And has since excelled at both his art and music making. I've been keeping an eye on his progression for many years and I highly recommend taking a look at his music on his SoundCloud, and viewing his videos on his YouTube Channel.
-Till Next Week DESIGN WEEK #4 More design weeks, more getting an understanding on what I can do with flash. This week I made a phone, which I used my HTC one for how things should look. I really like how it feels to make things in flash and I'll probably be using it more often, but not for designs. While I can get really nice lines and work with colors and filling better with flash in terms of designing Illustrator is the way to go. So from now on for the next 6 weeks I'll be using strictly Illustrator when creating things. For week #7 I'll be making a character HUD so look forward to that. CHILDREN'S BOOK So during this week my mom came to me and my sister with an Idea she's kept in her head for a while for some children's books, and because the both of us have some knowledge of art and design she asked us to create some ideas for how everything will look. So I'll also be posting stuff related to that as I work on it, and it'll also be a good chance to use flash more. It'll be a fun concept to work on and see where it goes and I'll be starting on it within the next two weeks. ILKYRA Ilkyra: Ilkyra is a deviant artist I came across during my time back on the site and looking at the works of different people. She is an artist and animator who has been working on a specific world of her own called Chasm Crossing. Her animations are really smooth and flowing, and the expressions she makes on her characters really help read their moods and emotions. You can view more on Chasm Crossing and her other works on her DeviantArt Page. And she also does livestreams of her animating on Livestream.
-Till Next Week DESIGN WEEK #3 So right off the bat I'm going to admit that this week is a little lack luster, more of experimenting and trying things out more so than focusing on the execution. I had most of what I had in mind for this week roughed, but I wanted to wait until my new tablet came in before I started on it. I also wanted to see how making art in Adobe flash felt. A lot of this and other things resulted in not having enough time to make a "complete" design, but with it nearing 11:00 after waiting for the chance to use the computer I didn't have nor put enough time into this week. I did the outline in Flash, then exported the outline and put some quick colors on inside Photoshop. It makes me sad that I wasn't able to put enough time into it because I really liked the idea I had, but things happen. I will say that I'm getting more used to the new tablet now, and I'll have to try doing a full piece in Flash. For next week I'm going to make a phone. TABLET As I mentioned before, I got a new tablet that came in this week. It's a small Intuos tablet with more functionality than the Bamboo tablet I had before. I actually have pen pressure now, and the overall feel is much nicer. There are some things I need to get use to though, my lines are a lot less clean using the Intuos, specifically diagonal lines which I'll get used to with time. Also the way the tablet orients itself on the screen is different than the Bamboo, while the Bamboo worked more like a mouse in terms of positioning on a screen, the Intuos works in a more precise way. Overall I'm enjoying the new tablet and I'm sure I'll get use to it pretty soon. GONZOSSM Gonzossm: This week I present Gonzossm. He is an artist and animator and well known for the Toss The Turtle game. One of the reasons I wanted to try doing art in flash is because I recently watched his livestream of creating art. The animations he posts on his YouTube channel while sometimes a little on the mature side, are hilarious to the right audience. I enjoy his work and hope to understand more about creating art in Flash from his livestreams.
