So. This Monday was the day that determined whether or not I'm ready to graduate from The Art Institute of Virginia Beach. And what a day that was. First of all I was under the impression that I had to be there before 9:45 because that's when I was told my review would start. So knowing this I left home an hour or so before that time. Just to find out that there was a huge backup due to an accident that happened earlier. Which I took a picture of because what else am I to do in that situation?
Yea it looks pretty bad, not sure if the driver was injured but I hope not. In any case the time when I took that picture and got pass the traffic was 9:38. So I was extremely worried about whether or not I would make it on time. Bad news is that I got to school at around 10:05, good news was that I got there halfway through the review of the person right before me. So it turns out that there wasn't a specific time on when each person went, rather just one person then the next in line. So luckily I was able to get my presentation done without worry. And happily went for drinks with my classmates while we waiting for our results.
As far as I currently know, me and everyone else passed our review. This is what my review critique said:
Pros:
· some nice character animation
· some decent particle work
· good, solid 2D animation timing
Cons:
· Lighting needs work
· If particles are going to be at the forefront, you must be able to show you know how to do more than “make” particles. You must be able to CONTROL them. This will require sprites, script writing, forces animated on and off to make the particles DO what you WANT and DESIGN them to do.
Recommendations: Go back and learn how to control particles. Particles need to be designed and then executed. Learn about sprites.
Now I know what I need to look into next. Though I wont have access to Maya to do this. I'll still be able to watch some tutorials on youtube or visit various sites for informaton. Until then I'll keep working on my animation and digital painting skills with Flash and Photoshop. In any case, I passed and I'm relieved to know I did. All of the worries, and doubts I had are finally put to rest. I my graduation is on the 16th of December.
